About the Role

Organize. Build Power. Win Housing Justice. PUSH Buffalo is hiring Housing Justice Organizers to help build people power and fight for dignified, affordable, and sustainable housing. This role is for someone who believes housing is a human right, loves working with people, and is energized by organizing alongside community members most impacted by injustice.

What You’ll Do

Build People Power

  • Recruit and organize members across Buffalo and Erie/Niagara Counties

  • Build deep, trust-based relationships that move people into collective action

  • Develop PUSH members as leaders within the Housing Justice Campaign Team

  • Facilitate political education and skills trainings grounded in a Just Transition framework

  • Conduct one-on-one meetings and track leadership development using Salesforce

Lead Campaigns for Housing Justice

  • Co-create and win local, state, and national housing justice campaigns with PUSH members

  • Develop and maintain clear, strategic campaign plans

  • Conduct door-to-door outreach and community engagement in frontline neighborhoods

  • Work closely with tenant advocacy, policy, sustainability, and community development teams

Strengthen the Movement

  • Represent PUSH Buffalo in local, state, and national housing justice coalitions

  • Support member leaders to participate in coalition spaces, meetings, and convenings

  • Bring lessons from coalition work back into PUSH’s organizing strategy

Support the Organization

  • Supervise canvassing staff and volunteers as needed

  • Support grants, budgeting, reporting, and internal planning

  • Help organize large-scale actions, trainings, and organization-wide events

  • Speak to media when appropriate and approved

  • Travel for actions, conferences, and movement gatherings

 

Who You Are

You are someone who:

  • Loves working with people and building collective power

  • Has at least 2 years of community organizing experience

  • Has supervised staff, interns, or volunteers

  • Has 3+ years of experience in a nonprofit or movement organization

  • Understands housing justice and its connections to climate and economic justice

  • Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing

  • Is organized, adaptable, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities

  • Is willing to work evenings and weekends as organizing demands

  • Has experience with tools like Salesforce, VAN, Excel, and Word

  • Has a NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation (required)
