The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing various accounting and bookkeeping functions within the Finance & Administration department.

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Enter deposits and invoices into accounting software.
  • Generate purchase orders and obtain required approvals prior to check run.
  • Generate and distribute checks biweekly and as needed.
  • Generate and distribute invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Organize and update financial records.
  • Assist with audit(s).
  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable (AP) and/or receivable (AR).
  • Generate AP and AR reports weekly and as needed.
  • Follow up on outstanding AR and AP.
  • Obtain insurance certificates as needed/complete applications/renewals.
  • Assist with Finance & Administration department duties.
  • Order supplies/merchandise and maintain inventory as needed.
  • Work with Directors and others to develop budget for grants.
  • Generate grant reports as needed.

 

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Associate degree in Accounting or Finance OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • One (1) year of experience with not-for-profit accounting.
  • General understanding of general accounting policies and procedures required.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of not-for-profit accounting. Experience with QuickBooks software preferred.
  • General knowledge of financial operations, grant accounting.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite. Strong Excel skills necessary.
  • A proactive, creative, and flexible attitude.
  • Willing to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary.
  • Must reside in Buffalo, NY area, able to work on site at least three (3) days per week.
  • Proactive team player, flexible & enthusiastic self-starter who can work independently.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and follow-through necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal, multitasking, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Bilingual/bicultural a plus.

 

The starting pay for this position, starting salary to be determined by combination of education, experience, and skill level, is:

 

  • $22.00 -$25.00 per hour

 

This position is full-time, hourly non-exempt. The position will report directly to the Accounting Manager.
